I've just returned home from an enjoyable evening with some lovely Ottery folk (FFFocus) at the Lamb & flag. Ottregian Percy Franks was asked to do a chat about Ottery 'in the Old days'. Well...he had a lot of stories to tell about the things he used to get up to, the games that used to be played with lots of old family names popping up. Did you know that before the war there were plans to build a swimming pool in the old factory car park? Apparently, it was to come from the Weir, drain into the pool with the overflow going straight back into the river. We also had some really good contributions about the old days from Flo R. My favourite was the bit about going to the co-op, with the old wood floors, in a hat and gloves and the gossiping ladies at the top of Tip Hill. Thank you. A good night out.
