Ottery St Mary late night shopping is on Friday November 29th this year.
There will be music and lights and Santa on his sleigh, festive attractions and a chance to shop for presents and to spoil yourself.
The first event of the evening will be the Brass Band playing outside Downs Motors at 5.30pm. Focus then moves to the Church steps, where the choir will sing a few hymns and you will have a chance to visit the Christmas Tree Festival in the Church.
The La La Choir, Carnival Court and Santa (assisted by the Rotarians) will lead the torch light procession down from there to the Council Offices, where the La La Choir will lead the light switching on ceremony. After some celebratory songs, they will hand over to the Silver Band who will play for the next 45 minutes.
There will be a treasure hunt for children through the town, and a large cash prize for the best dressed shop, so all shopkeepers are being encouraged to show you their best offers for Christmas presents and gifts.
There will be a rolling road closure for around 10-15 minutes as the procession winds through Gold Street - we need to protect the people involved and anyone who chooses to join in, so we do apologise in advance if you are sent the long way home. If you can avoid Silver Street, Cornhill, Broad Street between about 6.15 and 6.30 that would be very wise.
Please remember the idea of the evening is for the town to enjoy an hour or two in the town centre, bump into some old friends and maybe discover a local shop that you didn’t know sold the perfect gift for someone special. Please support our local traders and enjoy the lights.
So please do put the date in your diaries - we look forward to seeing you all on the 29th!
